   While shouting and swimming about the coral beneath the waves (as mentioned in the song) sounds like fun, for most it's not a very practical way to spend time with coral. Nor is it necessarily possible as coral is underwater and without diving tanks, humans cannot breathe under water—let alone shout.

   Anthozoa is the scientific name assigned to the class of marine invertebrates that include corals. Common types of coral consist of polyp, stony coral or hard coral, and precious coral otherwise known as red coral. Varieties include staghorn, elkhorn, brain coral and fire coral. The Mohs hardness on coral can vary from 3.5-4 for a precious coral to 6.5-7 for a fossil coral.

   Similarly, the meaning of coral varies greatly. Ancient Romans used coral as a powerful amulet to ward off the evil eye, negative energies, and evil spirits. In the Christian tradition, the branched red coral represents salvation found in the blood of Christ. This coral is also associated with the tree of life. In regards to the Root Chakra, coral is frequently believed to boost vitality, physical strength, and courage as well having the ability to connect a person with earth and water. Emotional healing and transformation are two other qualities attributed to coral.
